Learn about Pesticide Safety: Webinar on EPA’s Mitigation Menu Website

Advancing Protection of Non-Target Species from Pesticide Exposure

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accelerating efforts to reduce pesticide exposure to non-target species from agricultural crop uses. To facilitate this, a public webinar, offering an overview of the EPA’s Mitigation Menu website, is scheduled for *June 18, 2024, from 1-2 PM ET*.

Updated Mitigation Menu Implements Flexible and Effective Measures

An update to the EPA’s Endangered Species Act (ESA) Workplan issued in November 2022 laid out plans to develop a menu of mitigation measures for inclusion on pesticide product labels. These measures aim to reduce pesticide exposures from runoff and erosion. The Mitigation Menu offers flexibility for pesticide users to choose mitigations that suit their specific situations while maintaining an effective level of mitigation.

Web-based Approach Streamlines Process and Ensures Prompt Benefit

Following public consultation and review, the EPA has decided to host the Mitigation Menu on their website rather than on individual pesticide labels. This will allow for instantaneous updates and modifications without the lengthy process of updating thousands of labels, making sure agricultural pesticide users reap the benefits promptly.

Future Implications for Pesticide Applicators

While the mitigation menu imposes no current restrictions on pesticide use, it will inform mitigation measures for new active ingredient registrations and registration review of conventional pesticides. Current and future pesticide labels requiring mitigation measures will direct users to this website for the most updated list of mitigation measures.

Engage and Learn More through the Upcoming Webinar

The upcoming webinar is designed to acclimatize users with the website and its navigation. Attendees will gain an understanding of the new label directions, website navigation process, and accessing associated resources. An opportunity for questions and feedback will also be provided.
