EPA Innovates Chemical Data Reporting for Pesticide Safety

EPA’s 2024 Chemical Data Reporting

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is prepping for the 2024 Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) cycle. This submission period opens on June 1, 2024, and concludes on September 30, 2024. To streamline the reporting process, EPA has launched a new resource portal and updated its reporting tool.

Understanding the CDR Rule

Every four years, manufacturers and importers must submit data to the EPA under the CDR rule. This encompasses information about the manufacturing, processing, and use of chemicals. This rule applies mainly to chemicals listed on the TSCA Chemical Substance Inventory. Depending on the period, different manufacturing activities are under scrutiny for the 2024 submission window, it is those conducted during 2020 to 2023.

How CDR Database Helps

The CDR Database plays a pivotal role in enhancing pesticide safety. It helps EPA and other groups, including communities, researchers, and industrial members, understand the types, quantities, and uses of chemicals produced or imported in the United States. The regular updates of this data every four years aid in prioritizing chemicals for evaluation of potential human health and environmental effects.

EPA’s CDR GuideME Portal

EPA’s new resource portal, titled ‘CDR GuideME’, brings together all CDR guidance documents and training materials at a single location. Users can swiftly find topics of interest through a collective search across all CDR questions and answers.

Upgraded Central Data Exchange (CDX) System

EPA has refined the data submission process through advancements in the CDX system. Enhancements incorporate 2024 CDR reporting codes usage, an updated spreadsheet for chemical information bulk upload, and better functionality for copying substantiations and accessing submitted records.

Get Ready to Submit to CDR Database

The CDR website hosts updated guidance on submitting information to the CDR database, alongside information about prior CDR reporting cycles. Manufacturers and importers must register and gain EPA approval before they can begin submission forms.
